Our Story

In September 2019, a small group of faculty and staff members from Ball State University came together to talk about how the university could play a role in addressing the problem of addiction in the Delaware County community.

With visions of holding a ‘townhall,’ we hosted a community-wide symposium on substance use disorders in March 2020…and we built on our commitment by leveraging this ‘coming together’ of stakeholders to make sure the symposium was not a ‘one and done’ event.

We launched the Addictions Coalition of Delaware County in July 2020.  It represents a strategic community-academic partnership between Delaware County and Ball State University.  As members, we seek to increase the substance use assessment, prevention, treatment, harm-reduction, and recovery community capacities in Delaware County and on the Ball State University campus.

Our coalition currently has representation from over 30 public health organizations, businesses, and government agencies in Delaware County, and we have a membership registry that includes over 300 Delaware County community residents and/or community & Ball State University stakeholders.
