A grassroots effort by clarinetist/teacher Eva Wasserman-Margolis, along with Elizabeth Crawford and Diana Haskell, the International Clarinetist Corona Competition was conceived as a support mechanism for professional clarinetists ages 25-40. We believe this virtual competition will provide hope to those who were financially disenfranchised when the world stopped for COVID-19. Through partnerships with the clarinet world’s top manufacturers, along with internationally-known clarinetist/musicians on our three jury panels, we offer an outlet and hope to those professionals who have lost work.

Clarinetists ages 25 through 40 years of age as of December 28, 2020. Applicants may apply to one of the three categories (Klezmer, Jazz, or Classical) of the Competition.

Jazz Repertoire Guidelines:

The repertoire for the Jazz Category of the International Clarinetist Corona Competition has been generously contributed by select members of the Jury, to promote the study and performance of music composed by living jazz clarinetists.
Choose three tunes–one from each of the following categories–featuring solo clarinet, over optional recorded accompaniment or live small combo (trio/quartet), observing the social distancing recommendations set by your state/country. You must demonstrate performance of each song’s melody as well as solo improvisation on the chord changes in each song:
1) One of the following Ballads:
Victor Goines – Joie de Vivre
2) One of the following Blues/Swing tunes:
Victor Goines – Tippin’
Eric Seddon – Euclid Avenue Jump
3) One of the following Grooves:

Andy Miles – Symphonic Jazz Rhapsody, Movement 3 “Pasión”
Nailor Proveta – Choro pro Paulinho
Nailor Proveta – Choro pro Penezzi
Total not to exceed 15 minutes.
Please email to be sent PDF copies of the lead sheets. You may use the music for the sole purpose of competing in the International Clarinetist Corona Competition from November 1st, 2020 until December 18th, 2020, and are unauthorized to distribute the files.
