This small but mighty piece of equipment has the ability to make care easier not only for the patient but also for the nurse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apsf.org\/article\/managing-luer-connections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-365\" src=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28152921\/Leur-Lock-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"366\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28152921\/Leur-Lock-1.png 1267w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28152921\/Leur-Lock-1-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28152921\/Leur-Lock-1-1024x602.png 1024w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28152921\/Leur-Lock-1-768x452.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><\/a>The Luer Connector has quite a long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mddionline.com\/components\/the-life-and-death-of-the-luer\">history<\/a>, being first invented in 1896 by Karl Schnedier, despite IVs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ivwatch.com\/2020\/11\/10\/the-history-of-iv-therapy\/#:~:text=By%20the%201960s%2C%20the%20use,O'Shaughnessy%2C%20and%20Dr.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intravenous therapy<\/a>) being largely unsuccessful when they were first attempted. Honestly, I don\u2019t know how early doctors had the idea to insert fluids into the body for a faster release than ingestion, but they couldn\u2019t simply insert a needle into a vein. Once, health care providers could successfully insert a needle into a vein without complications in the 1960s, the Luer connector finally found a place. It did get an upgrade referred to as the \u201cLuer-Lok\u201d in 1930, but it took till the late 1960s to become the most common piece of equipment in the field, and finally became standard in 1980.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spiritmedical.com\/products\/tiva-and-specialised-extension-sets\/triple-lumen-extension-set-with-two-anti-reflux-valves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-366\" src=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28153557\/Leur-Lock-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28153557\/Leur-Lock-2.png 490w, https:\/\/bsu-wpe-sites.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/06\/28153557\/Leur-Lock-2-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/a>I know I\u2019ve already ranted about this complicated history, but seriously, how did people not realize this genius sooner? I work in the EMS field and have my eyes set on becoming a doctor, so my eyes never overlook the details in healthcare. Nobody likes being stuck with a needle, so the less it needs to happen, the better. The Luer connector also has other benefits, such as the ability to connect multiple lines to one needle. There are more impressive medical advancements like <a href=\"https:\/\/angelusmedical.com\/blogs\/guide\/what-is-a-hyfrecator?srsltid=AfmBOoregKK6jodWsaYH2U-86rMqKR__jpFBN9r8xUbrEFtCQeX3FzMk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hyfrecator or Endoscopy<\/a>, but the Luer connector has everyday uses in many different medical settings<\/p>\n<p>It may not be the most impressive piece of technology in a medical world of lasers and bionics, but the Luer connector is holding it all together, one screw at a time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luer the Flow By Kalie Adams The Luer Connector is possibly one of, if not the best, everyday devices used in modern medicine.
