Pittenger Student Center.<br \/>\n            The Academy convened <strong>30 K\u201312 teachers<\/strong> from across Muncie and neighboring districts for a<br \/>\n            week-long, interdisciplinary experience focused on civic engagement, media literacy, local history,<br \/>\n            and student voice.\n          <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text\">\n            Participating teachers engaged in sessions on:\n          <\/p>\n<ul class=\"body-text\" style=\"padding-left:18px;margin-top:0\">\n<li><strong>Indiana Historical Society and Statehouse learning<\/strong> \u2013 Field-based experiences exploring primary sources, state government, and the evolution of civic institutions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Historic site visits<\/strong> \u2013 Activities at sites such as the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site that connected national narratives to Indiana\u2019s civic history.<\/li>\n<li><strong>We the People curriculum &amp; mock trial<\/strong> \u2013 Workshops led by the Indiana Bar Foundation that modeled constitutional literacy, civil discourse, and applied civic reasoning. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}<\/li>\n<li><strong>Media literacy and local history<\/strong> \u2013 Sessions on critical consumption of news, analysis of local media archives, and integration of Muncie\u2019s civic past into contemporary classrooms. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"body-text\">\n            Evaluation results show <strong>significant knowledge gains<\/strong> across core civics domains:\n          <\/p>\n<ul class=\"body-text\" style=\"padding-left:18px;margin-top:0\">\n<li>Teachers\u2019 combined civic content knowledge scores increased with a <strong>large effect size (Cohen\u2019s d = 0.95)<\/strong>, with statistically significant gains across all measured areas (U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, U.S. government, geography, media literacy, Indiana and local history). :contentReference[oaicite:8]{index=8}<\/li>\n<li>Post-assessment averages for knowledge in 7 of 8 content areas reached <strong>\u201cvery knowledgeable\u201d<\/strong> (3.4 or higher on a 5-point scale), up from just one area at baseline. :contentReference[oaicite:9]{index=9}<\/li>\n<li>Teachers\u2019 <strong>confidence<\/strong> in connecting civics to literacy, discussing sensitive topics, sharing civic strategies with colleagues, and improving achievement for low-income and underrepresented students all increased significantly, with moderate to large effect sizes (d = 0.55 to 0.90). :contentReference[oaicite:10]{index=10}<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"body-text\">\n            Teachers described SCLA as both intellectually rigorous and practically grounded.
