With Compassion Toward One Another<\/h1>\n

Preparing for the Challenge of Civic Unity for America250<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWith Compassion Toward One Another is a professional learning initiative led by the Center for Economic and Civic Learning at Ball State University. The project supports middle and high school educators in teaching civic unity, moral leadership, and democratic responsibility through primary sources anchored in April 4, 1968 \u2014 the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy\u2019s Indianapolis address.\n<\/p>\n

Why This Project<\/h2>\n

\nThe 250th anniversary of the United States invites reflection not only on founding documents, but on moments of national fracture and moral courage. On April 4, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy delivered an impromptu speech in Indianapolis calling Americans toward compassion rather than division. That speech, delivered the night of Dr. King\u2019s assassination, remains one of the most powerful examples of civic leadership in a moment of crisis.\n<\/p>\n

\nThis project equips teachers to help students engage that history through primary sources, historical inquiry, and structured civic dialogue. The goal is not nostalgia. The goal is civic formation.\n<\/p>\n
