CREATE’s 2nd Summer Civic Learning Academy (SCLA) will focus on elementary school teachers at Muncie Community Schools (MCS). Over eight days of sessions, SCLA will convene practitioners, teachers, and scholars to explore innovative and practical approaches that improve the incorporation of civics-related content and dispositions in MCS teachers’ classrooms. Sessions will take place at the Student Center on the Ball State University campus with “field trips” to other locations. SCLA is organized by CREATE (Civic Renewal through Agency, Tolerance, and Engagement), a partnership between MCS and Ball State University supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Teacher quote from 2023: “It provided useful knowledge that was beneficial to all instructors regardless of the subject matter they teach, and we can readily incorporate them into our lesson plans. This two-week workshop was simply spectacular, and I highly recommend it to all instructors that are capable of attending in the Summers to come.” —Warren Bell, science teacher at Southside Middle School
